Moving is one of the most stressful parts of our lives, but it is also a sign of change and changes can always do good. You can never be fully prepared for all the challenges you are going to face on the moving date but we do have a couple of tips on how to make your move a smooth one.

1. Create a schedule

You know that the movers are supposed to arrive at 9 but there are a lot of things to do prior their arrival. Plan ahead! Don’t get overwhelmed with all the things that need to be done before they arrive. Our advice: Don’t forget to defrost your fridge at least one day before.

2. Hire movers as soon as you know your moving date

Movers get booked for months in advance. So, if you would like to hire professional movers you can make a reservation as soon as you know the date.

3. Pack an overnight bag with essentials

There is a pretty big chance that you are going to be very tired when the move is done. You will want your essentials to be within easy access. It is a great way to transport your clothes for work or your laptop , which could run the risk of being damaged during transportation.

4. Label your boxes

When you arrive at your new location and you start unpacking your boxes, it is great to know that you labeled every box with the name of the room they are going to. The unpacking process will feel more manageable. And, one more advice, label the sides of the boxes, not the top. You can then see what is in the, even if something is placed on top of them.

5. Take pictures of your electronics

Before you disconnect your electronics, take a picture of them with your phone. It is important to take pictures of the cords and the back of your tv and other appliances so you can remember where they go. It will save a lot of time.

6. Keep important documents somewhere safe and easy to find

Don’t risk misplacing your home sale documents, employment or tax records in the midst of the moving process. Get a separate container or a box to hold all of your important documents and to keep them in a safe place.

7. Make use of your baskets and suitcases

Pack your items into suitcases, storage containers and laundry baskets first, to save boxes. There is also a bonus-suitcases with wheels.

8. Use plastic wrap to secure lids on fluids

Take the lids of your shampoos and conditioners, put a layer of plastic wrap over the top and then put the lid back on. That way, you are avoiding leaking during transportation.

9. Clean your items before packing

You will be grateful for this one! Keep a roll of paper towels or a duster close by as you pack. Wipe the items before placing them into boxes. Your new house will be fresh and clean the minute you unpack everything.

10. Finish packing before moving day

If you decide to pack on your own, the least stressful thing to do is to separate packing and moving. Start packing early and make sure that everything’s in order before moving.

11. Hire a full-pack service mover

If it is very stressful for you to organize everything and to do packing as well, you can always hire professional movers to help you do everything. You don’t have to lift a finger. Everything will be done by the team.

12. Schedule time off of work

With a full-time job, the weekend seems to be the most convenient time to move. But if you finish the move late it can happen that Monday turns into a rude awakening. Give yourself an extra day of work to unpack and to avoid stress and fatigue.
